I recently found a set of Masakuni tools on Facebook Market Place. They belonged to the sellers mother Susan Lydon who was apparently very involved with Bonsai 20 years ago. The tools are in good shape but a few need to be sharpened. Who does the best job sharpening tools in the United States?

Wow! Decidedly old school tools!

Not aware of anyone who sharpens bonsai tools in the US as a regular business. Most any reputable tool sharpening service or bonsai professional can do this job well. Just tell them to keep the same angle… which they should do anyways. There is a guy Bruce’s Sharpening service PA who’s been recommended on the FB group as being really good though..

Or call up a reputable bonsai shop and ask if they use a service or do it themselves…. They might sharpen these for a reasonable price.

Lots of bonsai folks simply get some stones and sharpen their own tools. Not that hard.

Good Luck

I got a Joshua Roth tungsten carbide tool sharpener that works very well. I can’t find it for sale anywhere but I also got one of these for my gardening pruners and it’s about the same.

Have one of these also… and this tool does work well

These are for tools that already have a decent edge on them, to give the edge a quick clean up. If a tool has been laying around likely would at least need a couple run through a lower and higher level stone.
