been doing this for awhile now and I knew it was only a matter of time. I was looking over one of my maples and notice in the crotches of the branches white bugs. Tiny... Maybe mites or small scale bugs. I did notice a few larger scale bugs for sure though.
Never dealt with scale. I'm thinking of giving them a good scrub and hard water blasting followed by some alcohols sprayed on them.
What would yall do?

I get them every year early in the season on tridents and have actually noticed them on two juniper just recently. For the trident I usually just manually remove them one at a time(super tedious) and follow up with a spray of some sort of insecticide. Bayer I think.
for the juniper I have just started blasting with malathion. Not sure how it will work out. I had used horticultural oil for scale on a juniper once before and it seemed to work as well, but if I remember correctly it was a small infestation. Good luck.

Just a stong suggestion here, determine exactly what you have first, because eradicating bugs is often times bug specific, and may also include targeting the eggs, or the larvae, or the adult. Once you know the bug, you can determine the nature of potential damage to the plant, if any, and whether a bug kill is necessary. Am interested in knowing specifically what bug you have and how dealt with because I am focusing on maples.

Spray the water drink the Alcohol.

Seriously.

That's the best idea yet:)

Here a pic of the bugs. image.jpeg
I've been lucky in my bonsai days to have almost no pest. But you know it going to happen eventually. Lol
