I have had this live oak (purchased as a start) since February.

It is taking off with the spring light and growing leaves that look massive to me.

What is going on here? Do I need to prune this growth back?

What kind of live oak do you have? If it's southern live oak (Quercus virginiana), the leaves are naturally pretty large. Other live oaks have smaller leaves. Any bonsai will develop smaller leaves as develops more branches (ramifies). Oaks are kind of hard to get to ramify but it can be done.

Also, it would help to put your general location in your profile. You'll get better advice if people know where you live.

I can reduce the leaves on my live oak (quercus fusiformis) to 1/4 " or even less. 'Full size" leaves can be six inches long, but average out at around 1-3. Just Longtime containerization can get 1-2.

Leaf pruning end of spring. Full sun. I don't like to do it though. For the most part oaks don't really appreciate it

Are they indoors? Without natural unfiltered by glass Sunlight leaves will be too big'
