Hi folks,

These little thin, white and long little insects have appeared all over my Chinese Elm -Nothing on or under leaves-They dont seem to move around much at all - at least not that i can see. My searches online have yielded nothing. Tree is not any significant distress- some yellowing of leaves but maybe i overwatered :/ Any help with ID’ing and treatment would be much appreciated.

Looks like scale insects. Squish them and look for the larger adults to remove as well. Also recommend using horticultural oil to smother their eggs & larvae during dormancy.

It is a scale commonly called euonymus scale because it is often found on them, but like many scale insects, it is opportunistic.

You’ll get better control targeting them during crawler stages. Look up the GDD or that period that coincides with your area for that. Most extensions or ag/Hort universities will have that info.

What is the GDD?

Euonymus Scale is quite difficult to get rid of. Read the linked articles.

frequent, every 10 days or less, depending on temperature, you will have to treat again.
