Links to good bonsai soil/mix?

Hello very cool bonsai people,

I have realised I am in need of some good soil, but the stuff my local garden centre sells is pretty bad.
Does anyone have a link to soil one can buy online or something?

It's not hard to find good soil for bonsai and all the major online bonsai shops will sell it.
Greenwood bonsai and Herons bonsai come to mind.

as is often the case it depends what you're after,

I am not a fan of Heron's mix as it is too water retentive for what I keep (mostly pines and junipers)

Kaizen offers a selection of mixes with different water retention, many people then add some akadama to the mix to improve it.

Ibuki offer a premixed akadama, lava, pumice that is often on sale at shows and car boot type events.

if you want to mix your own, last time I checked the cheapest online for soil components was wattson bonsai in Scotland as their price includes postage which is often expensive for soils due to size and weight!

Have you tried making your own?
I started out buying ‘the bonsai supply” premade mix but found it was too chunky. I needed something finer for me medium and smaller sized trees as I’m pretty new to the hobby. I don’t have any big trees. Then I bought some premade from Wigerts and it was pretty good but still a bit chunky and all the premade are expensive. It will really add up if you’re buying new stuff every few weeks….. or more frequently than that lol.

So I ended up buying individual components on Amazon then sifting a mixing it at home. Which is an improvement but still costing about $50-$60/month. I was literally getting on here today to make a post asking where do people buy their components in bulk? I will watch the video now, probably should have watched it first haha
