I thought this was interesting. Wanted to share. I was cleaning out some forgotten areas of my back yard today and saw an old piece of trunk that I had cut off of an elm in late spring/early summer. I guess I missed the trash can and it fell under an azalea. Fast forward to yesterday I was going to toss it when I looked closer. (Pardon the cell phone pics)
It had pushed buds, most surprisingly.
And on the other side:
The dern thing had sprouted roots!
Pretty resilient little species.
I think it's time for me to stop killing junipers and pines and maples and just go with what wants to live!
