Mmmm, plans for the future will be branch placment, some jins, moving the apex to the right, but for now I've insulted it enough time for fertilizer and growth!

Let us know how it goes. They usually dont like having their branches lowered.

Are you talking about there magic trick and putting branches back after being wired, or just them giving up gass and dieing

Looks nice regardless and hope it turns out. Fingers crossed it doesn't give you the old "Foxtrot Oscar" and drop several of those nicely placed branches. Please keep us posted. I've thought of doing something along the same lines but have been scared away by the seeming consensus that they don't take well to bonsai work.

The cambium appearently can be broken easily and bending them too much may break the cambium beyond healing.
I don't know if it's that, or they won't send sap in a downward direction.

The only ones that I've ever seen live have been where the branches all grow in an upwards direction.

I'd love to see a sharper bend downward where the lower branches leave the trunk... good start, though.

I originally wired them in the nursery pot after i repotted it the angles where off. At this point I don't want to harass it, as I've done A lot. So I wait for now

Well at the moment it's pushing new growth very well so we shall see. Plus for how cheap it was I can't complain

Sorce, I don't make stuff up. I've never seen one that had downward sloped branches. Really, about the only way I've seen them do well is to have the upward sloping branches. Even bending them horizontal seems to cause problems.

That's been my experience. But, I could be wrong, and others have had better luck.

I know! :p

I'm Trying, foolish as it May be...
To figure out the Truth.

I have branches bent down on 45s and they are OK.

But...
The jury is fully still out on every "teaching" of them.

Xept you can't chop em...
Don't know the aftercare timeline...

But chop alone doesn't equate to death.

While....
Pruning and wiring in Winter..
Can...but doesn't always make dead.

1st growth hardened and new buds formed doing well
View attachment 147369 View attachment 147370

hardened off already? My spruce are just opening.
Glad to see you working on these though, nice material. I'm with Sorce on these. I'm highly skeptical of the common beliefs about DAS. So many times we read they're not that great a subject because of this that or the other thing. I'm not saying all those people saying things are wrong but I hope they are! Nice start, keep us posted.

Mine are about ready to harden off the first flush. About a week-week.5 I pinched every tuft on one side and left the other side so I could watch results on one of my burners, I pinched it hard too. Some of my others I pinched only the apex and the healthier upper branches on some of my other ones. Comeoooooon second smaller flush
