Remember getting advice to delay juniper wiring and branch reduction till autumn when the live vein is less likely to slip and cause branch die back.
Yet I see a lot of juniper work done in Aug.
Is it because owners have better technique abd are able to avoid such damage ? Its still a bit on the hot side here (upper 20s lower 30s Celsius) so wondering if I should wait a bit more before starting wiring work and doing some branch reduction???
Thanks

Bark slip is more likely when the juniper is actively growing. In many places they've slowed down after mid summer. Temp is not always the deciding factor for growth or dormancy. Day length or changing day length dictates growth more. August is almost autumn and probably considered well into Autumn in some places but not in other warmer areas.
Damage can be reduced by both timing or technique.
Sometimes we just don't care that much if a branch dies.
Some growers just don't know the consequences yet so make sure you are following experienced juniper growers.

I think it should be OK by now but I don't really know the growth cycles of plants in Beirut. How brave are you feeling?

That explains it I guess. We're in September and I'm still getting new growth so guessing I should wait a bit more. I feel quite OK working the trees now as I don't have severe bends to make. My wiring techniques is still not there but have improved big time last year.
My only concern was that losing branches was not an option due to lack of backup....
As wiring now gives no real advantage abs as ill be pruning as well guess ill give it few more weeks for the new growth to harden a bit more so that tree wo t be affected much energy wise by pruning ?
Thanks

Yes it's a bit early if the tree is still growing.
You also want to be careful about pruning this time of year because juniper store their energy in their foliage over the winter so you don't want to prune too much.
