I have a chance to collect some crape myrtles here in San Antonio and this is a species I'm not at all familiar with. How do they do with late summer/Fall collection? None of the trees have started fall color yet and they appear to be still growing. My trident maples and cedar elm are still elongating as well if that shows any idea of the weather here. I still have the tropicals outside! Nighttime temps are in the mid 50's and 60's, but we are occasionally having nights in the mid 40's
Winters are typically very mild here so I'm not sure if winter hardiness is that much of a concern. I'd protect with a normal procedure.
I know spring bud push is a better time to collect, but would these do okay collecting now? Would it be better to collect before or after leaf drop on these?
