Hey Nuts,

I have some White and red Chojubai cuttings that have been stuck since the end of July/Early August. I have a Handful of each that I am certain have begun to root, and have started to put out new foliage.

Here in the Northeast however, we are starting to enter our "true" fall season, with overnight temps beginning to drop below 50F here and there. Im worried they wont have enough time to leaf out, and grow enough roots for the winter.

That being said, my winter storage area has heat mats and space heat that keeps everything all but just below freezing on the coldest of nights here. If its 0F outside, the cold frame has an air temp of 28F and then of course, the aforementioned heat matts.

Im wondering what the Nuts think....Should I just let them go, keeping them on heat mats from now thru the season, letting them go through their fall cycle of shorter days, colder temps, and wind down their metabolic activity as normal, or would you baby them a little, bring them inside when temps drop below 50, maybe even put them under lights and heat in my indoor tropical storage until they can grow out a bit more, then ween them back into the cold frame?

I would let them continue as you would your motherplant. Wind them down naturally. They might have some resources saved for next year.
