I was checking the sale section at our local nursery and came across these two maples. They are both grafted of course, one is an emperor I and the other one is a bloodgood. I had my eye on these for some time but I couldn’t justify spending $500 on a tree, well they were marked down to $120 so I went ahead tagged both. Now I’m debating what I should do with them :) can over winter them in a large container or should I get them in ground? I live in zone 7a.

I would get them into the ground.

You are not planning bonsa with these, are you?

I've seen people air layer in two spots on trees like this, so maybe do that?

Ground or large containers against a building for winter. Mulch the top soil for extra insulation

Air layer them in various areas in the future. In March or so

No unless planting for yard. $120 Money nuts otherwise. Better trees/bargains to find at back of nursery for REAL bargains😊.

really? I thought $120 was bargain for a tree this size? How old are these you think? I bought a couple of smaller maples for my front yard earlier this year they were $260 each.
