I’m having an issue with my Kaneshin concave cutter having a little trouble closing. I’m fairly sure it got some rust in there because I messed up and left it out one night a few weeks back and we got unexpected rain. It’s mostly surface rust from what I can tell.

What would be the best way to clean it so that it’s a smooth opening/closing? Vinegar bath?
I don’t have the knowledge, tools, or confidence to dissemble and reassemble.

Tri Flow or 3 in 1 oil or WD 40 on the hinge. Work it in. Oil again.

Might have a bottle of alcohol spray, an oil bottle and a creamate blade cleaner by your tool bag to use before putting the tools away..

Cheers

I can try WD40. I used choji oil and that didn’t help much.
I’m normally better with my tools, but this one I just forgot about.

Thanks, DSD!

This is going to not be an instant fix. Sounds like the hinge on is a dissimilar metal

So try soaking in vinegar and workjng the tool constantly every couple minutes. Rinse, Dip in alcohol then oil and keep working on it. Over time it will loosen up.

My go too’s after that are kerosine or paint thinner and/or an oil bath.

As long as one can get working the tool it will eventually loosen up. When is unknown

Good Luck

I keep wanting an excuse for an ultrasonic cleaner. This sounds like a possible use case.
