Hi all, this tree was one of my first tree's I bought for bonsai about 4 years ago.
It survived my first repotting ever!

in 2016 i have it a first attempt for styling:

ive let it grow with a trim once or twice each year and in 2019 i repotted it into this Chinese mass production cascade pot.

couple days ago i wrapped the trunk in non stretchable bandage and the rain kept it soaked for couple days (with the tought that it would be more pliable after that)

then yesterday i pruned it Packed it up with raffia and wired and styled it.
this is my first cascading attempt any critisism is welcome !

This is a fabulous representation of how "advice" is usually misguided.

I think anyone would have WTF'd this tree untill yesterday.

I would have.

Well done!

Honestly, I liked it better before you trimmed it. The upper trunk looks better upright verse just being pull down.

Much better now.
The previous did not know whether to be upright or cascade. Now the environment it comes from is clear.

Pretty sure this will have no impact on the pliability of living wood. The wrapping is a physical barrier to help hold the wood fibres together when you put stress on with the bends.

TBH I'm not sure why you used the raffia as there does not appear to be much, if any bending in those sections?
The upright part appears pretty straight and out of character in the first new photo (leaning left) but it does have some slightly better movement in the lower pics.

thnx for the reply!
i think the pictures dont show the movement very well i did realy use some force to get it to bend maybe ill snap (hopefully) beter pics today.
but this was round one and got plenty of years ahead to make adjustments :)

I hope so too.
I have sold the tree.
Are they updating you on the tree? I hope so. I just saw this thread for the 1st time and I like what you created. Nice work.

Where did you get the pot? I dig it

Thnx!
Ive never heard anything from the buyer ill try and reach out to see im curious too how its doing now...
Oh man :/ That is a weird realm of bonsai I’m not sure I would do well with (selling and checking in and getting reliable updates).

I hope the tree is doing well, you did good work.

I’ve sold numerous trees that the new owner killed after not following my advice. Sad, but what can you do?

I dont know where it originaly came from i bought it from someone allong with allot of other pots but almost sure it was Chinese mass produced.

Yeah i cant find the guy i sold it t so i can only hope it lives.
I learned allot with caring for and working on it so for me it served its purpose... if trees are not terrible expensive people that just started are often interested in buying and i dont like selling trees way over priced if you want a tree to survive only sell to people you know that are able to care for them..

Yeah only thing you can do is either dont sell or only to people you know that are able to care for bonsai... maybe one day ill see it again maybe not fine with it either way!
