A few years back, @Dav4 offered up this Shimpaku.

You can read about the sale here:

You can read more about the history of the tree here:

It’s taken me awhile to get this tree back in shape. I’m not sure if it was a fungus or what, but this year it started to show some real life.

This initial styling is me trying to get the basic design set in motion. I’m hopeful I can begin to balance out the growth from here.

I’ll probably repot into something deeper while I begin to change the planting angle.

After thinking I might kill this tree, I’m happy to see it finally progressing.

Here’s a few before and after pictures of the work completed this weekend.

I also commissioned @MACH5 to create a graphic visual of the tree, which you can see here:

Admirable work you done. Mighty fine!

Man, I wish I could find material like that!
😉

Seriously, I love the new rendition. Next year this time, it’ll really look great!
Hahaha.

Thank you. And I agree, give it a year and I think it will look 🤩.

Was gonna keep that bottom branch until Sergio chimed in and suggested I cut it.

Hope you are well.

Only thing I will say Greg is that the apex still doesn’t know what direction it’s going! Is it loyal to Dave moving left, loyal to Greg moving right! I don’t know! Maybe it’s less the apex and more the branching in that top left side of the tree that just needs shortening up a bit, either with wire or with trimming.

Great tree regardless.

To the right is my intention. (I'd add Sergio's concept also shows it to the right).

No doubt this tree needs more detail work. Bringing back into the studio brought that to my attention. But, as this tree has never been 100% healthy under my training, I'm anxious about doing too much, too soon.

But your feedback is spot on.

I def figured you had a long term plan and that you see the ambiguous nature of the flow. I have no doubt this tree will only get better.

Sometimes I feel like we are all a little too nice, myself included on assessment of each others trees. I’m trying to be more constructively critical where it fits.
