Hello everyone,

I recently purchased this Japanese White Pine bonsai, and I would love to hear your thoughts on it. I'm particularly interested in any feedback on its current structure and potential styling directions for the future.

Do you see any improvements I could make, or specific techniques that would enhance its aesthetic and health? Any advice or inspiration would be greatly appreciated!

Looking forward to your insights.

The foliage needs to be pulled in by wiring - typically white pines have compact foliage.

I find the lower trunk to be too vertical - so you could also take the opportunity to change the potting angle (rotate it clockwise) and increase the angle of the first bend to visually lower the apex.

the way the tree currently is will do you zero good in the long run. white pines need to be as compact as possible. i'd get the tree more 'upright' to bring the branches closer to the trunk, and then use wires to bring the branches down even closer to the trunk. you should also try and use a branch to visually cover the grafting point

I think that's a cool starter bonsai.

Do JWP have similar issues to JBP with Needlecast?
Or are they generally tougher when it comes to diseases?
And they're single flush pines, right?

JWP are single flush iirc. Since this is grafted, disease is probably dependent on what its grafted *to* but for needlecast I think its the same
