I had my sisters boyfriend with me out looking. He pointed out a couple trees that had nice trunks but the foliage was a little dull or had yellow in it. I told him no because in order to have it live after collection they need to be in the best health.
Just started working with them last year. I'm going to treat them like scots or mugo pine for backbudding techniques. As for proper time to do repot I've been collecting them in the spring so that will be when I try root reduction and repotting. If it fails I'll give it a go at the same time I do mugo pines. After Father's Day.
They do backbud. I have a couple that have been worked over by a brush hog and they pushed buds out of the trunk. How well or reliably they backbud is up in the air yet.
