Hello all. My attempts to collect a yamadori elm this year all failed. So i was wondering if anybody had a potted elm I could buy or even trade from them. It doesn't have to be huge.

I am in mid michigan and am willing to drive anywhere reasonably close.

What kind of elm?

I was looking for an American Elm because that is what somebody recommended for my area. That being said, as long is it can survive a michigan winter ill take it lol!

I'm sorry but I cant figure out how to pm you lol. I am interested if it can handle this coming winter.

That's mid Michigan. You know I live like 90 minutes north of you. If you like we could meet up in the early spring and maybe see if we can't dig up a couple elms. Siberian or American or both. I will scout some out this fall and get permissions and all that.
I can also find tamarack,Scots pine,Jack pine, white spruce,Hawthorn and 2 kinds of Hornbeam. All are very suitable for bonsai.
Send a p.m. and we will work some things out.

key is to be prepared. prepared means doing things at the right time. the right time is in the spring. have your pot and soil ready to go. try to limit the amount of time from when plant is dug to when plant is potted. dont let it dry out. seal cuts, top and bottom. water it in and dont mess with. dont even water it again for at least a couple days. do this and you should find success.
