On which map? The USDA updated its maps a few years ago in an effort to take global warming into account. Though more likely needs to be don, that's the best we have now. And besides, they are just generalistic guides.

Jim the link the OP provided yielded 7b for 28334. This is old and as you stated has been updated. Please refer to the USDA Plant Hardiness Interactive Map for 28334 at this location link. As you can see 28334 is now zone 8a.
