I've read before somewhere that insecticidal soap can remove natural protective oils from young conifer needles leaving them more susceptible to things like needle cast fungi. Think it's true?

It seemed like a possible correlation to me last year. Cooley spruce gall adelgids and rhabdocline needle cast on Douglas fir. Used the soap for adelgids in spring more than usual, (get them real early before they fuzz up, pretty effective) had more needle cast than I've ever seen before.
It was also the worst year I've ever seen for rhabdocline in the wild here. Cold and wet early summer, trees in the wild got hit hard. Maybe it was just that and no connection. It's adelgid time of year again now.
