[1] Know that many of the questions will be repeats -------- suggest all new members read through the archives for a few months, before entering questions [ this is done on the Art forums frequently ]
Frequently the arguments come from Boredom with the same response.
[2] Be honest if your interest in Bonsai is minimal.
[3] Let folks know if you have a short temper or short attention span, or short reading attention span.
[4] Be willing to read books at the Library and do a given amount of self research. Join a club.
[5] A good teacher knows how to discourage a bad student [ as Al does frequently ]
[6] Know that results in growing trees can take years.
[7] Be willing to experiment, a great deal, especially with growing conditions / soil / tree types.
Learn how to experiment.
[8] Know about the Ball Bearing effect - as regards air spaces in soil and how roots interact with that space and compost/ humus.
