Short history of this plant:
Picked it up last June at the Minnesota bonsai Society auction.

Did some minor pruning during the growing season thru ‘22. 9FF4A9F5-5822-4932-ADC3-5C00ACC0B7BD.jpegADADDC7C-12B2-4368-AD14-DBEB3B20A985.jpeg

First year at wintering the plants in the greenhouse.
I left the door open one December night, and bunnies got in to feast on a bunch of tender branches from a bunch of different trees.
This one included.

Nice!!! This kind is SO cool!

I WILL be outlining the things I have learned from Ribes on the TinyTree forum. There are many steps.. but MUCH payback from these beastly plants.

Tomorrow i will be uploading my spring work so far... Hopefully... I shall summon you there, as I'd always appreciate more for the discussion.

Dang...

That barking is r'DICULOUS!!

I want one!
I’m happy it’s alive today. I’ve killed a couple of these.
This one has had the tough work already done to it. If I can keep the bunnies out… or not. 🤣

Ribes IS one of my rabbit-magnets, too.

I have one I collected LAST year, in an attempt to "jump the gun" to make my care guide... It chose to kill off two of the trunks necessary for my design.. so now it is fruit stock!

They ALL go "up"

Ribes are a large part of local rabbit's diet... It's kind of OUR fault!

🤣🤣

Good to know. I’ll leave a bowl of carrots maybe. 🤣

This one has gone downhill all season. I can’t blame the rabbits this time.

I’ve tried less water, more water, more sun , less sun, some feeding (osmacote).
It pushes new buds from time to time, but nothing much seems to take.

Some pics from today. She’s bare. But some bits of new growth IMG_9725.jpegIMG_9726.jpegIMG_9727.jpegsoil/roots.IMG_9728.jpegAny ideas?

Hmmm.. how much sun is it getting currently? (Because "more sun, less sun" DURING and throughout the season can be strange to estimate as our marble moves position)

Ribes end up on the "sensitive to too much/frequent fert"-side of the teeter-totter...so how was your schedule?

Also... for what it's worth, half the time, Ribes that I know, sulk HARD for a season after repot.

EDIT: It doesn't look like you repotted recently..my bad.
🤓

I said to myself, “This one is starting to grow on me.”

And then was aware of the bad pun. 🤣IMG_0634.jpegIMG_0636.jpeg

Early spring leaf out. IMG_0814.jpegIMG_0815.jpegIMG_0816.jpeg
What would you do with this tree? My plan is just to let it grow. But I’m open to suggestions!

For the most part, I let this one run. IMG_1914.jpegIMG_1913.jpegtoday I decided I could give it a little prune.
I Can’t wait to put it in this @vancehanna pot next spring!IMG_1915.jpeg
