Hello Joedes3... I believe I did all that pruning in late Spring/early Summer and I am in your zone area. I believe that Spring is the best time. This way, the tree has the whole upcoming season to grow. This year, I repotted, trimmed and pinched all in mid Spring.. However, since it is a yew, it buds from everywhere and seems to keep growing. It is a very forgiving tree.
