Hinoki Cypress Chirimen help

I am new to bonsai. I just acquired a Hinoki Cypress Chirimen and not sure how to transform the tree in bonsai tree.. like thicken the trunk, wiring, etc..

Any advise or help?

Also worth taking cuttings (pure akadama or kanuma or perlite in a shady greenhouse). Long ones can either be used to form a group, or wired to form a twisty trunk that can be thickened later. That’s probably the best resource this one can give you (a stock of small trees to play with), the main tree has a straightish plain trunk which isn’t ideal and might be too thick to bend but as a beginner you could use that for a straight version of a Literati style to get branch wiring practice etc. There’s one of these in one of the Bonsai Art of Japan youtube videos too.

(You could chop it nearly at the base too - or later. Or aim for a 2 or 3 trunk design?)
