Hi all,

I've been experimenting with a homemade bubble propagator : http://localbonsai.com/update-preparations-for-a-bonsai-aeroponic-propagator-2/

Until now, all of my greenwood cuttings have failed (acer, abies, malus, betula, etc) except for this mystery cutting ! I don't even remember taking it. Can anyone help me identify this guy ?!?

I believe it's from a common landscape shrub or tree. The leaves are compound pinnate, ovular with indentations along the sides, and smaller than a penny.

Hopefully this is enough information. Thanks for your help.

Regards,

-Kirk

Hello Kirk,
This looks like a Yaupon holly (Ilex vomitoria).
Good luck.

This is no help but those stems and leaves look like a rose to me.

This is my first thought as well but there are some things that do not click so I did not post it. First the leaves look like paired (but maybe just in the pics), 2nd the stem is all green all the way (including root area) most of the time they turn beige as they age.

Thank you! I believe it is a euonymus - I have the variegated variety in my yard, but apparently the young leaves of a cutting do not have the white halo around the leaf.

Anyone ever use eunoymus as bonsai ?
