Hello my 1 yo pine has been stored in the shed over the winter and now it looks terrible. Fearing the worst I took it out of its pot to check for root rot which there was none thankfully and repotted into 70% turf-ace/ 30% pine bark. I don’t know what’s wrong with it and would love to hear your opinion on what’s going on. Thanks!IMG_1792.jpegIMG_1789.jpegIMG_1790.jpeg

I'm also concerned that pot might be too big for the little guy. Might keep it too wet. Do you know what kind of pine it is?

No idea what kind of pine it is (it was a volunteer) it has a lot of fibrous roots and during the repotting I made sure to not damage or disturb them. I agree that the pot it’s in right now might be a bit too big for it but it’s the only one I have on hand right now sadly.

I had a JBP go this route over this winter, too. I did water weekly, but it is still lost. I have plenty of lighting, and the other 20+ trees are okay. Mine looks overwatered, and there is some mold in the rootball.

In any case, a complete repot of a pine into all new soil without some retention of mycorrhizae from the original soil will doom the tree. Common practice is a half bare root procedure: some do the half laterally, others vertically.
