All im looking to repot my podocarpus. The tree is about 20”+ tall and is currently sitting in a 11” by 8” pot. What’s the right size pot for this size Bonsai? Should I size up to 12”-13” or wider? I prefer rectangular pots.
I like this but by that standard it's too deepGoogled it for you
The general rule of thumb is that the pots depth should be equal to the diameter of the trunk just above soil level. For oval or rectangular pots, the length of the pot should be 2/3 the height of the tree. For round pots, the diameter of the pot should be 1/3 the height of the tree.
Some of these look interesting. Who is the maker?I think it's fastest future is NanBanish.

Hello there! I currently have a podocarpus I purchased about 2 1/2 years ago that was recently repotted at the time. It was potted into a 9.5x7.5 inch pot with about 3 inches in depth. The trees trunk is currently 1inch in diameter and it’s well over 24inches tall, but when i bought it, that was about its height. With all that said I feel that the size of the pot is very adequate for the size of the tree, and still hasn’t needed repotting since I purchased it. I think based on the size of your tree that the pot size is good where it is now, and if you were to switch to a rectangular pot, I wouldn’t go up to the 12-13’’. I am a novice bonsai gardener, but I have over 25 trees atm ranging from tropical to deciduous in central NJ. Attached is a current pic of my podocarpus and some cuttings I’ve been able to root! Hope this helps! All im looking to repot my podocarpus. The tree is about 20”+ tall and is currently sitting in a 11” by 8” pot. What’s the right size pot for this size Bonsai? No it’s under grow lights. That picture I believe is 2 years old. It grows like a weed in the summer.very nice pot! (But so expensive) , not deep at all for your tree in my opinion.
By the way, I have two podocarpus in pre bonsai stage, got them from Brussels bonsai. Keeping them alive in door during winter is the hard part. Can you keep them outside in Richmond?
Is this crack a problem?very nice pot! (But so expensive) , not deep at all for your tree in my opinion.

I don't know. But I would worry if it's me.Is this crack a problem?
Yeah, I like the pot mine has so I think I’m gonna do a trim this summer and just go back into the original again. I hope you find a nice pot for it! I use bonsaiboy.com sometimes, they have a great selection that are inexpensiveNice tree! I probably don't size up but I'd like to get it in a better looking pot.
