Hi,

I've been working on a Hawthorn for about 2 or 3 yrs (dug up from a friend's property).

It's still very much a work in progress, however I'm curious as to why it hasn't flowered since I've had it.

Aside from a bit of removing of branches that aren't working, I've left it alone. It's in dappled sunlight.

Any tricks or tips, fertilizing and pruning do's and don'ts for Hawthorn to encourage flowers and fruit?

Thanks.

You may have to wait awhile. Most hawthorn species take twenty years or more to flower and fruit from seedlings. I have a row of them planted in the ground and after 25 years not all of them are flowering yet. The only thing that speeds the process that I know of is to put them in the ground and just them grow wild until they start flowering.

Mine was in bloom when I collected it, 15 years ago. It hasn't bloomed since, but I know it has the capacity, so I'll wait. I think they bloom on new growth emerging from old spurs, similar to apple trees.
