Can leaf reduction ever get to near the ideal size for a tree that is about 16" tall?

Thanks.

Probably not for a 16” tree. More can buds lead to smaller leaves, so if you have one that ramifies well, you may get slightly smaller leaves. This one is about 18” tall, pretty well ramified, and still has leaves on the larger side, but I really don’t mind.

Is this a chi chi version? Does that version allow for better leaf reduction?

Thanks.

My own is a chi-chi...and I've noticed reduction of foliage as it's developed ramification. I have heard it has smaller leaves in general for bonsai.

PH levels between 6.5-7 will help develop branching...so beneficial to reduction I believe.

That said..the larger leaf is from a tree in town. The smaller off my Ginkgo. Off the top of my head. I can't recall how tall mine is... 18 inches or around...possibly. 1000023131.jpg

What is the ideal leaf size for a 16" tree?
Leaf size is usually determined by the amount of ramification. Concentrate on getting better branching and leaf size will reduce.
I'm happy to see a mell grown and well ramified ginkgo even if the leaf size is a little larger than 'ideal'

Agreed...and let's face it. Gingko are a different breed. You've just got to accept them to appreciate them.
