In 2020 I first started getting interested in Bonsai. Obviously didn't know anything and didn't have any material but I did have this JP in my front year.
It needed trimming anyway so I decided to start slowing seeing if I could transform it from a tree that takes up space into a garden tree.

In 2021 I did cut back a lot but wanted to leave branches to encourage desired future branches to thicken and grow

In 2022 I didn't take any pictures but in 2023 first attempt to get layers and clouds. Still not seeing a great form but it is getting more interesting.

In 2024 I'm letting some lower branches to grow and thicken and hide the trunk somewhat to cover the ugly graft.

This year I can finally see clouds and will need to start work on how I want the crown to finish off. It still needs editing and depth but I can see some paths forward.

I tried wiring some but it always left nasty scars. So cut-n-grow and a bit of anchoring down of some of the branches have been my only tools. Anyway, I hope you agree with me that from Year 1 to now has been in interesting journey. I know this isn't Bonsai but I've tried to apply lessons learned and make compromises where needed. As always, you thoughts and recommendations are welcome.
