From Seed Division: AJM's Japanese Maple Forest

I only saw the thread now! :-o I hope I can enter it with the seeds I, ehm mother JM, planted in April 2021.
These germinated below some huge JMs in a park and I saved them before their siblings got beheaded by a lawn mower.
I probably had 30 of them at the beginning. Now (Feb 2022) I'm left with 6.

You are warmer than I am but still, watch the weather and give them appropriate protection. Things weather wise are really chaotic right now. I stratify mine later than I used to so I aim for April planting.

Mid June 2021. 11 remaining. The guest cuttings all died.
A couple of the seedlings showed much more strength that the rest of the bunch.

These are on their way now. I have a couple of trays this year. They stayed outside all Winter and we had a very mild one here.
Will follow your advice for sure! No frost in the forecast but you never know until the end of March, beginning of April.

We have had some single digit nights and several nights in the teens. Tomorrow night is predicted at 16F and the winds today and tomorrow are gusting over 40 mph. Our last frost date is May 1st to May 20th depending exactly where you are. Fifty mile east is zone 7, and 50 miles west is zone 5.
