What makes you think you need to slip pot it into something a little bigger?
What are the white chunks laying on your soil?
Are you keeping it outside?
I know you are the guy that's supposed to have questions right?
These are the kind of things that will need to be asked in order to help.
These are cool little trees and are tougher than they look.
Brittle,so its hard to bend branches unless you catch the shoots before they harden off. Clip and grow methods work very well for styling.

why i think it needs a bigger pot-the pot seems too small-there's room along the sides of the pot to grow but the roots are exposed on the surface and are above the pot-i think it needs something deeper.
those white things are perlite.
i've researched these and don't have many questions right now-but i'm sure i will.
i'll take any advice you have

I would wait until spring if there is room. Just cover those surface roots up better. Sounds like it was repotted this year sometime.

here's the trunk blown up it looks like a cluster like you said sorce,but it looks and feels solid.
