Excited and very scared....

Oh thanks, but I have already contacted with Korea Bonsai Museum, a private bonsai nurserie and school (http://www.ktreedesign.com/ ) for a visit. Also I plan to visit the bonsai collection at the Changgyeonggung green house.
This will be more than enough for someone who has never seen a real bonsai but in pictures :D.
Sounds like excellent experience days. Be sure to just have fun too. And, daughters might enjoy going along with you…..a new social activity. I assume you have plans for their involvement along the journey.

Good luck to you! Please take lots of pics to share when you get there. For me I think seeing big tropicals with aerial roots in their natural environment would be just as exciting as seeing the bonsai.

As for watering though, you can take a jar or bowl and place a string or yarn in it (I've even used nylon string like 1/8 inch thick) then take the string and pin in about half way down into your soil. It works surprisingly well and doesn't over soak the soil. I've also used one string and roped it to more than one tree. The string basically whicks it into the soil. The only issue I find is it seems to be constant. Your soil won't soak but it'll keep a constant level of moisture in it. You could test it out to see how fast it drains the jar or cup. If you use this route your neighbor could top off the jars instead of watering the actual tree. Just a low tech idea , it certainly might not be the best idea but it would be the easiest. The speed of whicking will determine how reliable it's is. Again good luck to you and let know how it goes and bring us some pics! Take care!

They were taking care of my trees on my move from China to Korea :)… extremely nice place.
You might say hi to Ms. Winna Lee (her husband is the master but doesn’t speak English)… I believe she might remember this crazy white guy :)

Ohh, bonsai will take only some hours in our vacation. I'm happy my daughters share my interest for culture (history, architecture, traditions....), so we will be enjoining together temples, shrines, gardens and museums, and whatever those cultures have to offer.

I want to see that 3 meters high penjing they installed in the garden!

Back from vacation. My trees survived, but leaving them under shade with an automatic watering system, for 20 days and under a windy heat wave was not a neutral action and actually some of my trees (those most important to me) were harmless, some had only lost their growing momentum, and a few (those under total shade) were under hard stress but alive. All in all , a success.

My travel to Korea and Japan was inspiring, sweet and memorable. I think I will be travelling there more often, now that I can be confident on my watering systems.

Looks like you had an awesome trip, and coming home to every plant surviving is the cherry on top! Great pictures too. :)
