I've been purchasing from Brent for atleast two years, had to replace some plants my abusive fiance killed with boiling water.... -_-

Brent was the first person I went too! He is the man for truck development and healthy roots!

Here's a order I got two days ago.

1Gal Kishu $50
1Gal Pixie $60

What do you guys think!? Some shots of the Rootballs too....

And that's the way Brent is. One of the few.

for anyone willing to shine light on how I should feel about the rootball on that pixie?

on 1-2 year old cuttings or seedlings I usually wash all the medium away and start developing radial root system by cutting the roots close to the trunk. But personally do it in spring before bud break. The jm stores a lot of it’s energy stores in the trunk and branches so it already has a lot of energy to push growth and start growing roots rather quickly again. That’s why I like spring because it pushes growth out which in turn starts growing roots again.

With the kishu I wouldn’t remove all the soil but would get it into a container to start gaining size. Since it’s young you can start developing low branches and keeping the foliage dense and close to the trunk as you grow the top to gain trunk size. But it all depends on the style you are looking for really on how you grow it out.

as a fellow Georgian would you up-pot this kishu now or wait till spring?

If I did root work in the middle of the kitchen floor my wife would probably start assassinating my trees with boiling water too.
🤷😁🫣

I was thinking the same! Almost made a cheeky comment but didn't want to be semi-rude and add nothing more, haha.

I'll be honest this thread was made to see if anyone thought that 1gal pixie wasn't right.... I've gotten 1gal with rootballs begging to be worked and this pixie was no where near that and it was mainly a 1gallon with soil mainly so i took that picture out of spite like that..... now I think maybe I just overreacted.

I've just never gotten a 1gal from Brent that wasn't established in said 1gal...

I hope I did not offend you, I was just joshin.
I don’t think he would have sent out a tree if he wasn’t confident in its health. It’s far beyond repotting season here in north Louisiana. Hope they do well for you.

Yeah, you should never have knocked it out of the pot this time of the year. I think the roots look finer though. Better than a pot so full of roots that it has no place to grow. Pot bound is not necessarily a good thing.
