I always like to have some local species in the collection!
So I waited till the hour that the local park ranger was having a Belgium Beer.
Dug up some Beeches and got a beer myself.

Wirhout further ado:

Problem:

Bite marks on leaves from may/june. Or they seem like bite marks.
New growth in summer seems weaker, new leaves curling and browning, “bite marks” appear on new growth as well (or after a while at least).
Browning in leaf edges.

- Healthy young beech in spring and before, vital spring growth
- Substrate accordingly and free draining
- Treated for Mildew, Lice and Carterpillars
- Renewed the substrate two weeks ago, cleaned the roots by water spray, no rootcutting and renewed the substrate 2:1:1 as is was before.

Deducted the snale subject by covering the soil and offering a lovely beer for them.

Seems like a root problem to me. Maybe not. But what is best to do for Beech in this case if the pictures shown and the info given are enough to judge accordingly?

The bite marks look like the work of leafcutter bees. Theoretically this should not harm the tree too much. The rest might be just post collection weakness. This tree needs to recover.
I would let more knowledgeable members here to comment.

I do not condone sneaking around to collect trees from restricted areas…. That being said, beeches need at least a year to recover post collection before work.

A figure of speech.

No restricted area, no sneaking around, because I OWN the area.

Collected two and a half year ago.

So no need for any fatherly advice. Had that when I was a child.

Usefull not smartass is what I was looking for

Tnx Kate. I dug it up 2,5 year ago. Last growing season was without any visible issues, thriving.
I think I have ruled out most common errors. Will give it a rest and see what next season brings.

I gave my opinion off of the given Information. So sorry you got fatherly advice when you were a child. You asked for advice here, a public forum and I gave advice based on the information given. Just fyi, if that’s how you are going to reply to members here that are actually trying to help, you’re not going to get much help. Good look with your beech. Mateo out.

I must agree with you. Reading back, my reply was a bit harsh and uncalled for.
Being in a foul mood is not the best time to reply.
