Documenting progress on this here tree, my not so little anymore ERC.

I pulled this little volunteer late summer/early fall of ‘22. Here it is pictured April 15 2023 after waking up from its first winter.

Here it is today. Am I crazy, or is this thing growing insanely quickly??

Wrestling with whether to do an initial trimming and styling or to let it run wild for one more year. Kinda leaning toward the latter right now. I believe ERC is an elongating juniper so I would like for it to get the full benefit of the many many runners it is throwing off right now. Have dealt with some small bouts of rust but I think through all of the research and advice I’ve seen here I have a good system of prevention/treatment in place that saw this tree through the danger zone this spring with no issues.

ERCs are a local staple here. I for one love the gnarled, twisted, rustic looking bark the older trees end up displaying.

I have one I just bought from a nursery in a 1 gal pot. It is closer in size to your second pic. If it displays growth like yours, I'll be happy. I didn't know they were capable of that. What size container are you using atm?

Young ones grow fast. The foliage and tertiary branching are annoying to work with, but trunk and primary branch development is easy.
