I've been working on this one for a little over a year I guess. I dug all of these plants from the woods on my parents' property. They are all over the place in my area too but strangely scarce on my own property. Here's what it looked like last year.

And this is where it stands now. I took out the tiny tree at the back and replaced it with a larger one in the front last fall and repotted into a larger container. It grew well last year exploded this spring and got quite bushy. This is after I thinned it out quite a bit and wired a few branches.

A couple of the trees are infected with cedar apple rust. You can probably see it in the photos. I have sprayed it a couple times with copper but I'm unsure of the best timing for that and if it will work. I remember JKL recommending lime sulfur so maybe I should try that as well. If anyone can give advice on the best time to treat and what to treat with I would be appreciative. So far it hasn't spread to any other junipers (I have pro nano and sargeant's). I do have a hawthorn on the way from Zach so I certainly don't want their to be any issues with that either.

The hawthorn will contract the CA fungus. You'll never get it out of those junipers, so I'd recommend you cut bait on them before you get too attached. Especially when you see it wrapping around those lower trunks. At a minimum, I'd get those two trees out (Jin them...could add some interest).

Man.....it was looking good too!

No worries....find some good ones and fulfill this project!

Than you Brian. Am I likely to be able to keep hawthorn healthy anyway with so many of these trees around here?

I decided to stick with my forest for better or worse. I'll just be vigilant with the hawthorn and keep them as far apart as possible. I've done too much work on this just to give up now. Last night I thinned it out and wired the main branches. The main tree has a bare spot top right - but there is a shoot there that should fill the gap pretty quickly.

My Bucky got a little rusty earlier this spring...just popped the leaves and it's fine.

But my Cracks don't have rust.

Just unwired and cut back the forest for the second time this year as it had gotten quite bushy again and the inside was not getting any light. I also jinned a couple branches in an attempt to add some interest. I'll probably jin at least one more on the far right tree but I want to let the branch thicken some more first.

Bro...thanks looking Damn good!

Seems you overcame the rust too?

Nice!

Thanks man. It's coming along. Your thread inspired me to get one of those cool Iker slabs for it too. I'll be moving it into that next spring.

Re the rust. It did the same thing last year. It got those orange blobs during the early spring rainy days and then it went away in the summer, but it came back a little stronger this spring. I cleaned off all of it that I could and sprayed it down with copper a few times. I think I'll hit it with lime sulfur this winter and see what happens next spring.
