These are pictures of elms that I collected that were grown from seeds last summer. They were in containers at school and were about 4 inches tall when I put them in this trough. They are growing nicely and I uncovered their base and was pleased with the growth. My questions: should I seperate them or leave them together as a group? If I seperate when? Guidance appreciated!

The longer you wait the more those roots will entangle. You are probably fine waiting for late winter without too much trouble. I would keep the ones that look like double trunks together. Just my personal taste. Go get more! :D

I'd pay close attention to their fall colors. If you have two trees fusing into one but they have different fall colors it might irk you. I love twin trunk trees but get weirdly obsessive over the foliage matching perfectly. Maybe they'll all be exactly the same or maybe you don't care, just something to consider. I guess if you're doing a forest planting it won't matter either

This is the forest on the other side. I have started thinning it out. All together I have 27 Chinese elms. I hope to get another batch this summer.
