I got this earlier this year at Home Depot and have been thinking of using it as an accent. The blooms start out yellow to orange and turn red as they age. It needs a hair cut, I have just been enjoying the flowers before the cold finally catches up to it.

These will be a lot more tender than the regular Lantana, and I suspect those freeze to the ground in winter in your area anyway, yes?

Very pretty...though not sure about the variegated variety. Some do make bonsai from lantana. Here is one I thought pretty. I have the lavender "dwarf" variety that is known for trailing. Mine resembles this slightly. (Or so in my minds eye anyways) So this is where I plan on trying to take mine.

What's the underneath of the foliage look like on yours? Have you ever slightly considered turning it it bonsai? Or...leaving it an accent only? Beautiful color yours has.

Thanks for the comments.

Jim - I think that it might be more tender as you said, I have been letting it see 40 degrees, but have been bringing it in for lower temps. I just got it this summer so I don't know what it behaves like.

Darlene - It is only skin and bones underneath, just twigs 1/8 inch or so, I am not sure how quick it will bulk up so I am not sure as to its future other than accent.

They grow like weeds here and laugh at 100 plus weather. I planted some in the landscape this year and the ones in full sun grew 6 feet limbs. Constantly blooming. I believe mine were marketed as confetti. Multicolored blooms. Absolutely gorgeous.

Good to know, I think that these were called flame or something like that. Like I said, I just got them and I am playing around with it, just an impulse buy. I am amazed at the leaf size as I have some regular lantana growing around the yard and it has very big leaves.

Was it marked trailing? I've read those are of the dwarf variety. Which would have small leaves. I am amazed at how tiny the leaves are on my own lantana. I guess I didn't realize regular ones leaves were that much larger.

John they will grow quick and get an inch thick base in a good growing season in full light. Bend them early as they get stiff quick. I have never seen a variegated one. Variegated leaf trees are not popular for use as Bonsai as they never really look like a tree. I love the color and the way they change from yellow to red like that. They will die back to the roots when frozen but sucker out again when they get warm weather.
