Just wanted to share some progress of growing out Doug fir from seedlings. They don't seem to get a ton of love, but I've found them to be very robust growers(obviously Seattle is pretty conducive) easy back/budding, incredible root growth.
I had a few different generations going which I just happened upon. Then, a year ago, I came across 25 or so seedling plugs for free. So, of course I had to expand the program a bit. Group photo of year 1, 3, 5 post seedling. (don't worry, I didn't wire them all exactly the same, I just thought 3 similar shapes made for a fun photo)
As of today, they've all been repotted, the two older ones in the pic will probably get a sacrifice chop to a new leader this fall to hopefully direct/maintain strength to the lower branches.
If anyone has Doug fir tips, tricks, experience on young material, feel free to add on!
Cheers!
