Picked this yew up yesterday, does it look a little too yellow? Should I fertilize it to get it green before winter?

It has been knocked off the shelf at the store and was loose in the pot, it was quite dry too.
I filled in the pot and watered it but nothing else. I do plan on taking off a few branch's today to open it up some.

What type of yew is it? Should be on the label and possibly on the side of the pot.

I was looking at it from a different view, could't see the neighbors place. It doesn't look as bad now that its had some water and sun.

I would keep in partial shade and avoid afternoon sun. Morning sun is ok.

Is that true for all yews (or only this species / aftercare) ? Maybe that's why my tree died (of fried).

Normally they have darker foliage but that is certainly not mature and quite possibly in full sun. I find here they do get dark and stay dark if they just receive filtered sun. Make sure not to overwater while never letting it dry completely. I also find that here in organic substrate they do best with a light spring and fall fertilizer.

Gail,

Please be advised, yew is toxic when ingested. I always picked up any clippings and washed thoroughly after. It's especially toxic for horses.

Kindly,

Victrinia

Good point as most all are. Funny thing is deer can and do eat the foliage and birds eat the fruit on the female plants with no ill effects! I wash after working any plant but these are toxic by ingestion. I also find it interesting that this hybrid is listed as a cross between an English and Japanese Taxus and the browns hybrid is described the same...
