Do we underestimate trees' intelligence sometimes? Overwintering and breaking-buds season

I characterize intelligence as being able to think about and act upon input. Genetically ingrained behavior is like a knee that jerks when struck with a doctor's hammer. Plants respond to input as programed, and variation in response to variation of input is no more intentional than the variation in expansion of a piece of metal as a response to temperature increases.

Let us all agree (all is a stretch), that we have seen examples where some plants are smarter than some people.
