I stumbled upon this short video, and apparently Elms suffer mass die-offs periodically. Some of you might find this interesting.
 
Makes one wonder . Has it been different reasons that killed off the elms in the past , or has DED had . Multiple attacks on the elms . In a cycle style . Where a mutation wipes them out . They overcome it . And survive . But it’s in the background until it starts to get the upper hand again
 
There’s something going around in my area killing mature winged and American elms. Im not sure if it’s DED but the bark around the base gets large dark patches where it is starting to die. It takes about 3 years to kill a large tree, each year it gets progressively weaker until it just doesn’t wake up from winter.
