The Louisiana Bonsai Society (Baton Rouge) hosted this year's "Louisiana Day of Bonsai" this past weekend. I was asked to be a vendor. Normally, I would have had several bags pre-mixed, but then SOMETHING HAPPENED TO CHANGE MY PLANS. At that point I decided to just load up my truck with raw components and mix on site. It worked out pretty well. I had pumice, red and black lava, Haydite, and pine bark. I also had several smaller pre-mixed bags.
In what I thought was a casual conversation, someone looked over my barrels and asked what I would recommend as a buttonwood mix. I came up with 1/3 pumice, 1/3 lava, 1/3 pine bark. Then the guy said "Sounds good, I'll take it." Then someone else came by, saw what I was mixing and ordered the same. The lava is a 50/50 blend of red and black.
