For fear that Liquidambars won’t bud, I tried my best to keep foliage on this tree at collection. It turned out that I may not need them after all. The tree is budding everywhere. I might chop this low soon.

It is growing OK. Should I chop it in the spring or give it another year?

I'd let it grow some more time. The more strong buds, the more choices on where to chop next.

Tree now is a part of my mixed Louisiana forest of bald cypress, Mayhaw, and sweet gum.

I believe all the BCs and Mayhaws will live. The sweet gums are not dead but are just slow going. Chances are this forest will be fine. We will know in a month.
