Not dead but no buds either after nearly a month. I suspect the severe root prune will take a couple months to heal. Knowing this species, I don’t think it will die.

Good start. Mine was pretty slow to get started, but really caught up in a hurry. This spring should see it take off.

This tree has a decent 4” base but a straight 1.5” trunk that I left long. Now that the tree survived the collection shock. I am thinking about chopping it lower and make it a shohin as planned. Your thought?

Agree with the chop lower. Maybe keeping the lowest third.

Moved out of basket into training pot. Did some heavy pruning and removed all wire.

I'm glad yours has survived! I had two lose all their leaves last week, still green under bark so hoping they'll revive. Yours looks great!

This time I am going to watch the buds closely and rub off the vertical ones. I neglected it last time and the vertical ones took over the growth. Little growth occurred on the rest of the branches. I am going to try to force the growth to the branches I keep instead.
