Imperial Masterpiece
Collected July 2022. Tree was pushed down by hurricane Laura. Tree was planted in a big pot with 75/25 mix of top soil and bark.
Pulled out of the pot today.
Beautiful root development but roots are very fine. I had planned to do a lot of root work and potted in different soil but changed my mind when I saw the roots. I then decided to simply shake off the soil, trim the roots and put in a shallow tray with the same soil.
Examining the trunk I found a major injury near the base that cracked the trunk, killing the top half.
Branch selection, wired down to give access to trunk. Trunk carved down to create a lip for top branch to roll over and form apex. Lower branches pruned to force growth on apex.
