It is interesting to note that silicon metal, while very stable chemically, does not exist in the wild. This is a chunk of crystallized silicon used in the computer chip manufacturing process. It is a memento of my past work.
The importance of the silicon chunk to me prompted the use of @vancehanna pot that I received as gift from @namnhi
My dad has worked in the semiconductor industry for over 30 years, so I grew up around this kind of stuff. He doesn't care about bonsai, but he'll be interested in this!
I'm curious to see how it compares to the root-over-crystal/geode trees. Not in a "which one is better" kind of way, just that those and this look different from the norm in somewhat different ways.
