Chinese Elm Fun

Picked this up last January at the Kawa Show. It still has a ways to go but it's been a fun journey so far.





The price was reasonable enough:



I repotted it soon after getting it but wasn't happy with it. The new plan was to keep it happy until next year and repot again.

Fast forward to Spring 2017. Picked up a nice Jim Barrett pot and in it went. Turned out pretty good.

It is comparisons like the these two different pots, that show me how much a pot can change the viewing of the tree. Nice choice!

The angle change is a huge improvement, though the new pot is great too. Our booth at the Huntington Bonsai-a-thon last month was next to Jim's, and I should have bought twice what I did from him!

It's amazing that is the same tree. You had a great direction you took with it. And it's astonishing how much more character you added by your vision. Great job Vin!

Powerful trunk. I'm curious where the bottom of trunk was hidden before repotting. Or is it just an angle change? So powerful it can outweight the visual weight of that nice pot. Nice find and work.

Good question and thanks for asking. It took the repot from last year and again this year to show the current base. Last years repot brought the tree up about halfway between the angle as purchased and the current one.
