I have a couple of Pitch Pines entering their fourth growing season. I started these pitch pines from seed that I collected from local trees. I planted the seed in February of 2021.
All of the developed Pitch Pine bonsai that I’ve seen tend to be on the larger side. I suspect the larger size is necessary due to their natural characteristics. Still, I’d like to keep these two trees as small as I can.
Each tree currently has a sacrificial branch to help thicken their trunks. I was able to get buds to pop low down on both of their trunks.
I’m just kinda fumbling along here with the little bit of knowledge that I’ve picked up off the internet so, if anyone has experience trying to keep Pinus rigida small & compact, I would welcome their advice and I’ll thank you in advance.
I’ll call this Pitch Pine From Seed #1

I’ll call this Pitch Pine From Seed #2
I plan on updating this thread until I either kill the trees through my inexperience or end up with something decent.
