I'm a complete newbie, and got this tree from Wal Mart (I know, not the best choice) a couple weeks ago. On the tag it just has the following instructions:

-Water when first inch of soil is dry
-Feed all-purpose plant food every 2 weeks, and trim.

It doesn't say anything about what type it is. It came with glued rock all over the top, and I removed it as much as I could when I read it was basically a death sentence for the tree. ANY help at all would be appreciated! I've never been known to have a green thumb and swear I've killed plants before just by looking at them. But I really want this to work out!

Hard to tell from pic but looks like privet. Good starter tree species.

Are you keeping it in that window all the time?

Thank you! And, most of the time yes. It said to give it bright light all day. Should it be by the window all the time?

Need better picture of leaves. I'm thinking Ficus. Compare with this pic of Ficus microcarpa 'Golden Gate'

Welcome to Crazy.

Whatever it is......if you can put it outside, it belongs there!

That's again another walmart privet.. You can safely repot with root work anytime of year with little to no consequence. Just keep it in the shade for a week or so after.

Looks like a ficus, my Walmart usually has those, Fukien tea, and juniper.

In fact this year Walmart changed their politics and get privets instead... :)

This one looks typically like the bunch of them I saw except that it's trunk isn't as gnarled.

Something I read about privet: needs a lot of water but are basically bulletproof otherwise.
